CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Punta Gorda man has been charged with DUI after investigators say he hit a pedestrian Sunday night, and continued driving home.

56-year-old Jeffrey Pitris later returned to the scene and was arrested and charged with DUI and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Serious Injury.

According to Florida Highway Patrol,  Pitris was driving south on Royal Road near Lemonade Drive shortly before 8pm Sunday when his pickup truck hit 22-year-old pedestrian Kenneth Jackson.

Troopers say Pitris then continued to drive to his home on Orangeade Drive a few blocks away.

Jackson was critically injured and flown to Tampa General for treatment.

Pitris returned to the scene and identified himself as the driver in the incident.
