STUART, Fla. (WTXL) - A Florida woman has been arrested, accused of putting glass in her own food and complaining about it so she would get free food.

Kaitlyn Murphy, 31, was arrested and charged with scheme to defraud.

The Stuart Police Department said that from Sept. 15 through Sept. 26, Murphy ordered meals from over 10 different restaurants. Just as she was finishing her food, authorities say she would claim there was glass in her food.

"The restaurants then gave her the meals for free, some even giving her gift cards in an attempt to 'make it up to her,'" a probable cause affidavit alleges.

When Murphy was interviewed, she admitted to placing glass in her meals and purposely cut her mouth in order to get free meals. She said that she would bring the glass from home and hide it in her purse before going out to eat.

She was taken into custody on Monday.
