(WTXL) — Duke Energy Florida is providing relief to customers during the COVID-19 pandemic by waiving all late payment and returned check charges.

The Florida Public Service Commission approved the emergency petition for tariff modifications on Tuesday.

“We applaud Duke for its actions to help customers facing financial hardships during this public health emergency.” said PSC Chairman Gary Clark. “Today, with these modifications, we provided the company with additional flexibility to mitigate customer impact.”

DEF has already temporarily suspended disconnecting customers for non-payment and will offer robust payment arrangements for customers in need.

The modifications also expand the tariff language to apply to any emergency declaration by an authorized governmental body.

DEF currently serves approximately 1.8 million customers in Florida.
