TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says they will be investing $35 million toward the protection and preservation of working agricultural lands in Florida.

For your rural lands to be preserved, you can apply to the conservation program.

The program develops conservation easements that protect natural resources and allow the landowners to maintain ownership of their land and protect it from development.

The program will accept applications through May 16, 2016.

Since the program's inception, more than 14,000 acres of Florida ranches and farms have been approved for conservation.
