ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida flight school that specialized in training European pilots is closed after its licensed was revoked.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Wednesday that the European Aviation Safety Agency suspended the flight school's certification of operation. The agency is similar to the Federal Aviation Administration.
In a memo posted on the Ormond Beach school's website, President Adrian Thompson wrote the school will try to complete programs for current students but will not accept new business. He also says they will refund any unfilled contracts. Thompson also wrote that the company will appeal the "unlawful and arbitrary action" by the agency.
Ormond Beach Airport manager Steve Lichliter says the new European agency has rolled out more stringent regulations that made it difficult for the school to comply.
