TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) --  Florida A&M University's Public Health Institute has been awarded $650,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The program is also about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The stipends will be available starting next month, once the spring semester gets underway.

The funds will come from two places: one will award 16 training grants at the school and the other for 200 thousand dollars will go towards training public health workers throughout the state. The funds should help cover the higher cost of graduate school. The school has about 120 students who are working on master's degrees in areas like environmental health, and maternal and child health.

Cynthia Harris, Director of the Institute of Public Health, is proud to have the school awarded these grants, saying: "Given the myriad of health disparities that we have, especially in the under-served, we feel that we are poised to actually address those concerns in a very confident way."
