FAMU Professor Passes Away at age 79

TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - An icon on the campus of Florida A&M University and a community legend has died at the age of 79.

Doctor Eva C. Wanton died at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. She had been in declining health in recent years. Wanton served at FAMU for more than four decades as Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and founding Dean of the School of General Studies. She was a legendary professor, and also earned two PHD degrees. She was a strong supporter of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, which built the Dr. Eva C. Wanton library in Mampong, Ghana in honor.

A funeral service is expected next week at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
