TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - After years without an official president, Florida A&M University has now filled the position.   

Friday morning, the school installed Dr. Larry Robinson as the 12th president of the University.

The event featured music selected by Robinson, reflections from those close to him, and the robing ceremony before the new president addressed the crowd. 

"Ladies and gentleman I am honored beyond description to serve as the 12th president of Florida A&M University and to serve our students and all of those who invest into this university," said Dr. Larry Robinson, FAMU President. "Let's rise together to contribute to the future of this great nation."  

Robinson said he has big plans for the university, including a stronger partnership with the University of Florida, and a commitment to helping the financial well-being of the students.

The inauguration continues with a gala Friday night and a special marker unveiling on campus Saturday.


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's been a year since Florida A&M named Larry Robinson as the next president, and now he will be officially inaugurated.

The three day celebration is highlighting Dr.Robinson and how he plans to help grow the university.

WTXL ABC 27's Jada Williams was live Friday at the Lawson Center on campus.

On Friday morning FAMU will hold the installation ceremony to officially make Robinson the 12th president.

The three-day event kicked off Thursday afternoon with a Gathering of the FAMU-industry-cluster.

The event focused on the theme "Together We Rise..," which FAMU says pays homage to Robinson and his commitment to collaboration, community and consenus building.

The "FAMU Rising" campaign was started by Robinson and his team to raise millions to enhance student success

The Installation Ceremony is Friday at 10:10 a.m. followed by a reception at 12:30 p.m. and a scholarship gala at 8 p.m. Friday.

The celebration ends Saturday with a special marker unveiling for a former Rattler in the FAMU Village.
