TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Friday, some Florida A&M University alumni were honored for their contributions to the alumni association.

Over one hundred alumns gathered in the FAMU Grand Ballroom for the 12th annual Scholarship Gala, hosted by the Leon County Chapter of FAMU's National Alumni Association.

According to FAMU, over the past three years, approximately more than $20,000 in scholarships have been awarded to FAMU students.

It wouldn't be possible without the help of alumni, some of whom were recognized Friday.

"Well what we put in is what we get back in return. Without students, there would be no FAMU and so to have the opportunity to raise significant dollars that go towards scholarships to allow students who are worthy to come to FAMU and help them with their academic experience is something that's really important," said Representative Ramon Alexander.

Gala honorees included Dr. Makeba Earst, owner of All About Smiles Dental Center, John Haugabrook, past-president of the Leon County Alumni Chapter, Juanita Moore, financial secretary and treasurer of the Leon County chapter, and Curtis Taylor, chair of FAMU's annual "Roast and Toast" Fundraiser.
