DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Decatur County School District recently bought 169 acres of land right next to the high school along Highway 84.
The plot of land cost the school system about $900,000.
Right now, there are not any plans for the land, but that could change in the coming years, depending on the needs of the community and students.
One idea has been to build a new middle school for quicker bus transportation, but also for shared resources.
"If we choose to build a new middle school out by the high school, it would just be very beneficial, we believe to the community," said Tim Cochran, Superintendent of Decatur County Schools. "Just the common resources that are shared among middle schools and high schools, with athletic programs and transportation."
Cochran recognizes that there are needs that need to be addressed at the current middle school, but they must be addressed in a responsible manner, with open options.
