9-year-old Northeast Florida girl reported as youngest COVID-19 related death in state

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A 9-year-old girl from Northeast Florida is now the youngest COVID-19 related death in the state, according to data released by the Florida Department of Health on Wednesday.

The girl, who lived in Putnam County, did not have any recent travel history and did not have any known contact with a confirmed case.

She is the first reported COVID-19 related child death in the Northeast Florida area.

Only five patients aged 17 or younger have died related to the coronavirus: A 17-year-old Pasco County boy, a 16-year-old Lee County girl, an 11-year-old Miami-Dade County boy and an 11-year-old Broward County girl.
