Chase for hit-and-run suspect ends at Tallahassee Waffle House

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A man has been arrested after police say he intentionally rammed into two cars and attempted to run over two pedestrians, before leading police on a chase to a local Waffle House.

The Tallahassee Police Department says they responded to a  hit and run crash at 2731 South Blairstone Road on Sunday around 11:52 p.m. 

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a black Cadillac which appeared to have intentionally rammed the victim’s vehicle then left the scene.

At 1:02 a.m., officers responded to 208 North Magnolia Drive about a black Cadillac intentionally ramming another vehicle and attempting to run over two pedestrians. 

Officers spotted the Cadillac and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle two different times. Each time, the Cadillac fled the area traveling away from each of the traffic stops. 

Officers again located the Cadillac and pursued the car until losing sight of it in the area of 3535 Apalachee Parkway. Witnesses in the area informed police the Cadillac turned on Idlewild Drive traveling north. 

Officers were able to find the Cadillac parked at the nearby Waffle House located at 3500 Apalachee Parkway. 

The driver, 28-year-old Derrick Taylor, was inside the restaurant and was arrested by TPD before being transported to the Leon County Detention Facility. 

Taylor has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing/eluding police, and resisting arrest without violence. 

As of Monday, he remains in jail on a $10,500 bond.
