TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A new city attorney has been named for the City of Tallahassee.
Commissioner Scott Maddox brought up the topic for conversation and a vote was made Tuesday evening.
Maddox says there's no point in waiting any longer to find the next City Attorney.
Cassandra Jackson is serving as the interim right now, but now she has the position permanently.
Jackson was named the interim city attorney last month.
Mayor Andrew Gillum and Commissioner Curtis Richardson had wanted Jackson to be named the permanent replacement, but the Commission ultimately agreed to reopen a national search.
Commissioner Maddox said Jackson has been the right candidate all along.
"Cassandra Jackson has 25 plus years of experience with the state of Florida, with an agency, with the public employees relations commission," said Maddox. "As an Assistant County Attorney, she's extremely well-qualified, and I'm going to support her this evening."
Commissioner Gil Ziffer voted against the motion. He said he wanted to see the city's process play out.
Commissioner Nancy Miller also cautioned about bypassing the process, but she voted in support of Jackson.
