TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A new movie theater will open its doors in Tallahassee next month.
CMX Cinemas Fallschase is being built off Mahan Drive next to Costco.
"What we'll offer here at this location, you don't have anywhere else in Tallahassee, so I think it's going to be well-received here," said Troy McDaniel, Regional Operations Director of CMX Cinemas.
CMX Cinemas has locations in St. Petersburg and Daytona. The one here is set to open July 27.
"There's just that buzz in the community, and it just makes us all want to get this open," said McDaniel.
The theater is the latest piece to a growing community, following an expansion of Mahan Drive.
"And now, you're seeing more and more development that's coming along with that infrastructure investment," said Jay Revell, Vice President of Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. "So, the entire Fallschase area and everything out there really is fascinating to see."
This is the largest of the 14 auditoriums at the theater, around 250 seats, all of them with recliners, and looking at 72-by-30-foot screens.
"It's like being at home, but even better, because you now got the big screen as well," said McDaniel.
The theater showcases a cafeteria-style concession stand, a full-service bar, and scratch kitchen. You can eat and drink at your seat.
CMX will also feature D-Box seats, which move at certain parts of a movie.
"That is in a select auditorium, and the film has to be formatted in that way but, you know, it's another creative experience that we can offer that's not currently available in the Tallahassee market," said McDaniel.
The theater will hire about 100 people, which means more jobs in Tallahassee.
"Some of those jobs at a movie theater like that might be someone's first job while in high school or another way that a collegiate student is going to get employed," said Revell.
CMX Cinemas will host a job fair June 30 and July 1.
