BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL) - The Spring Creek Bridge in Decatur County that was closed after being hit by heavy equipment is set to reopen on Monday.

Georgia Department of Transportation says the US 84/SR 38/Bainbridge bypass southbound lanes and the SR 253/Spring Creek Road bridge are expected to reopen Monday morning.

Currently bypass traffic is being routed up and over the ramps at the SR 253/Spring Creek Road exit.

GDOT stated they will need to implement single lane closures on the bypass next week to remove forms used in the bridge repair.

That could take two or three days. Lane closures are not allowed between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Officials said repairs could not begin until new bridge beams were manufactured.

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - There has been an update on repairs to a Bainbridge bypass that was hit by a piece of heavy equipment earlier this week.

The Georgia Department of Transportation immediately sent out inspectors to Spring Creek Bridge.

Inspectors saw a piece of the bridge's beam hanging down, and determined that repairs to the bridge structure were needed.

Crews have been working over the last several days to remove the bridge deck so the damaged beams can be replaced by another company.

"It'll be like any other construction project we do. This one's just being expedited. We are soliciting bids from three contractors ti go in there and make emergency repairs," said Nita Birmingham, Communications Specialist for Georgia Department of Transportation. "We don't have a timeline for that, and don't know how long until the contract will be awarded."

The southbound lanes of the Bainbridge bypass have opened, but the Spring Creek Bridge will remain closed until repairs have been made.

Traffic will continue to be re-routed to the "State Road 253 spur" then on to Shotwell Street.
