Bainbridge holds annual 'Sidewalk Sale'

Posted

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL) - Local shops brought their merchandise to the sidewalks Friday as part of an annual shopping experience.

Many shoppers see Bainbridge's "Sidewalk Sale" as Christmas in July since downtown stores mark down prices on their products.

"It's strictly the sidewalk. We do a 60 percent off sale on our products. We bring everything outside to make it the official sidewalk sale, so it's fun," said Amanda Rentz, owner of Reeves. "People who may not be aware of it can see it as they ride by."

Although this annual sale has been going on for a number of years, the new owners of Reeves are excited for what the day has to offer, and hopes that it will be a successful one.

"That it will make more people aware of our downtown area because we want it to grow. We want it to be successful for our town," said Rentz. "That's what we hope it will do, just bring more people in."

Shoppers of all ages as well as business owners look forward to the annual sidewalk sale each and every year.

"You run into people you know. I just saw someone I know from work and you know everybody that works at these little shops," said shopper Elizabeth Davis. "It's just a really fun time to see everybody."

Davis was hooked on the sidewalk sale after finding a sweater several years ago. Since then, it's been a tradition to come out.

"My sister and I usually come and we grab a coffee at The Bean and kind of make our way around to Reeves, stop at the candles, and we're done," said Davis. "Usually we come by Polkadots for a little bit."

The sidewalk sale is just one more way the Bainbridge community has found to come together on its nationally-recognized downtown area.

This is held every year the Friday before July 4.
