Authorities identify man killed in Franklin County plane crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a Franklin County plane crash Friday afternoon.

The pilot has been identified as 73-year-old Lewis Cameron Midlam of Fort Myers.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, on Friday at 6:10 p.m., a small plane took off from the Apalachicola airport and crashed into the east side of the marsh in the Apalachicola River.

They say Midlam was flying the plane and was found dead near the plane after the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration, Continental Motors Group and Air Safety Cessna were all at the Apalachicola Airport Saturday conducting investigations.


FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is reporting a fatal plane crash east of the Apalachicola river.

Authorities say the crash happened around 6:25 p.m. just east of the Apalachicola river.

A small plane was involved with one reported fatality.

Officials say no further details will be available until Saturday morning.
