TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Hundreds of Floridians from across the state gathered at the capitol today. Coming on buses from all corners of Florida, the crowd was mostly made up of minority advocacy groups like the NAACP and various faith groups.

Several speakers told the crowd that Governor Rick Scott's decision to remove Aramis Ayala from the case of accused cop-killer Markeith Lloyd was short-sighted and wrong.

State Senator Randolph Bracy helped write a law recently signed into law by Scott that requires unanimous jury decisions in order to hand out the death penalty.

Bracy feels Ayala has the right to run her office free of interference from others.

Those at the rally also feel capital punishment is not handed out equally, saying the death penalty is handed out more often to minority defendants, while being sought less often when the victim is a minority.
