The grills are hot and the spirits are high! Tailgaters are soaking in the glory of their hometown team playing in the Super Bowl at Raymond James Stadium. Bucs and Chiefs fans spent the day Sunday turning grassy lots into party spots.
Octavia Powell and her family have spent every home game tailgating in the lot adjacent to Raymond James but she says Sunday’s game is the most special.
“It’s like so surreal! In our own city, Tampa, making history!” she said with energy.
Parking is at a premium outside Raymond James Stadium with fans paying a pretty penny in some lots to park their cars for $200 a pop. Some are even venturing more than a thousand miles to be part of the atmosphere.
Chiefs fan Alfred Tetuan is basking in the Florida sunshine for the first time in his life. He says it’s too important of a moment to miss out on.
“We’re gonna run it back, take it home and be the Super Bowl champions for the second time,” he said confidently. David Otterness is lucky enough to have a ticket to the Super Bowl. “We paid about $7,000 for tickets. Don’t tell my wife that,” he said with a laugh.
