Months after Popeyes Chicken ran out of supplies for its chicken sandwich due to its stunning and unexpected popularity, the chain is ready to bring it back.

Popeyes confirmed Monday morning that the chicken sandwich would return on Nov. 3 — this Sunday — and remain a permanent menu item. And during the announcement, Popeye's couldn't help but take another shot at one of its chief rivals.

Popeyes debuted the sandwich in August to rave reviews. But it wasn't until rival chicken chain Chick-fil-A tweeted support for its own sandwich — and Popeyes took them down in a tweet of its own — that the "chicken sandwich wars" truly began.

The Popeyes tweet inspired numerous fast food chains to claim the crown of chicken champ on social media —all while drumming up buzz for Popeye's new menu item. Soon, lines at Popeyes drive-thrus grew dozens of cars deep, and long waits even inspired one teen to register customers to vote while they waited.

Popeyes ran out of supplies for its sandwich in late August, but offered to continue to serve the sandwich if customers "BYOB" — brought their own bun.
