LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Leon County School Board has voted to award a $100,000 settlement to former superintendent Jackie Pons.
That comes after a vote last night by the school board. This all started back when Pons lost his re-election bid back in 2016.
After that he tried going back to his old job as a principal, but the school board voted not to rehire him.
Pons sued claiming a board policy should have allowed him to go back to a position comparable to the one he held before being Superintendent.
The district said Pons wasn't an employee when that policy was adopted.
"Mr. Pons is interested in putting the acrimony behind him, moving forward with his own life, and doing something that avoids disruption in the school district, and so that how this settlement came about," said Ron Meyer, Pons' Attorney.
Of that $100,000 settlement LCS will pay 25,000
The district's insurance company will cover the remaining 75,000
Pons' attorney says the settlement decreases stress on the school board, and says Pons is happy that he can close out this chapter of his life.
