If you’ve purchased any bowls, plates or mugs from Ikea within the last two years, they may be involved in a recall.

Ikea is voluntarily recalling Heroisk and Talrika bowls, plates and mugs made from PLA (polylactic acid or polylactide) material. The material that makes up the bowls, plates and mugs can become brittle and break, causing hot food or liquid to leak out. This poses a burn hazard.

The bowls, plates and mugs come in a variety of colors and styles, so you’ll definitely want to check any tableware you’ve purchased from Ikea. While Ikea reports only one incident in the United States, Ikea Canada says they have received multiple reports of breakage. No injuries were involved.

The article name (“Heroisk” or “Talrika”), supplier number “23348,” “Made in Taiwan,” and “PLA” are molded into the bottom of each item that is involved in the recall. Heroisk bowls, plates and mugs were each sold in a pack of two and Talrika bowls, plates and mugs were each sold in a pack of four.

The recalled dishes were sold in U.S. stores and online between August 2019 to May 2021, so the recall spans nearly two years. The items cost around $3.99-$11.99 each.

If you have the recalled items, you can return them to any Ikea store for a full refund, with no proof of purchase required. If you have questions about the recall, you can contact Ikea at 888-966-4532.

This is one of a number of active recalls from Ikea, which is also recalling another cup due to a possible burn hazard.

Ikea says their Lyda jumbo cups can break when hot liquid is poured into them, creating a burn hazard. The affected cups were sold between August 2012 and April 2013, but if you still happen to have one, it can still be returned for a full refund.

While there have been no reports of incidents or injuries in the U.S., there have been 20 reports worldwide of the cups breaking in use, including 10 reports of injury.
