The year 2020 is a leap year, which means we all get an extra day at the end of February to squeeze in more fun. Of course, if you have young kids, it also means another day you’ll need to entertain them!
If you are looking for an idea of how to spend that bonus day, Target is offering a free event for kids celebrating beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss on Feb. 29, which also happens to be a Saturday!
Just head to your local participating Target from 10-11:30 a.m. on that day, where the retailer will be hosting a free event celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. At the event, kids will be able to enter giveaways, participate in activities and listen to a read-along of Dr. Seuss’ book, “Happy Birthday to You,” which will happen every 30 minutes.
The giveaways will happen only as long as supplies last, so to ensure your child can participate, it may be best to get there early. Also, be sure to check that your local Target is participating.
Dr. Seuss’ birthday was actually on March 2, 1904, so you don’t have to end the celebration at Target.
While there, you’ll find dozens of Dr. Seuss picture books and movies to pick up to continue the celebration at home. Many books are $5 or less and you’ll even find an entire box set of early board books to get your littlest reader loving his creative and colorful works.
Other fun finds include some you can order online, like this DVD of four cartoon favorites for $12.49. The DVD includes animated versions of classic stories “The Cat in the Hat,” “The Lorax,” “Horton Hears a Who!” and “Green Eggs and Ham.”
You can even start the celebration at breakfast by whipping up your own green eggs and ham (hint: just dye the scrambled eggs green!) or save the celebration for later in the day and make these adorable Cat in the Hat cupcakes from Crayons and Cravings.
While he never had any children of his own, Theodore Seuss Geisel, (aka Dr. Seuss) wrote and illustrated more than 40 children’s books before his death in 1991.
