TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The death of Joan Rivers has impacted people around the world, but to one local leader, it hit even closer to home.
Tallahassee Mayor John Marks' wife, Jane Marks, had the chance to meet Joan Rivers two years ago when she came to Tallahassee for FSU's Seven Days of Opening Nights.
Jane says while Joan was fabulous and full of life, she also had a sensitive and compassionate side, that was inspiring to her.
"She said to me, 'I have friends who are in politics and I'm worried about you and concerned about your husband. How is he doing?' And this was two years ago," says Jane. "That changed my whole perception because this is a woman of great empathy and great sympathy, so for me she will always have a special place in my heart."
Joan rivers died Thursday at the age of 81.
