Actress Marion Ramsey has died at the age of 73, according to her agent.
Ramsey performed on the small screen, movie screen and theater stage for decades, and is best known as Officer Laverne Hooks in the "Police Academy series in the 1980s.
She was a part of the comedy movie series through six films.
She continued to perform on stage and on screen, and writing songs. Her final acting credit, according to Variety, was in 2018 on a film called "When I Sing."
Her agent, Roger Paul, says Ramsey passed away suddenly Thursday.
"Ms. Ramsey’s infamous voice was emblematic; soft-spoken, unique and gentle, equally fitting her golden generous spirit, and humorous disposition," Paul said in a statement. "Her passion for performing and sharing her heart with the world was immense."
She was an advocate for AIDS awareness and performed at AIDS benefit events.
