TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Hurricane season began on June 1 and that means its time to start making sure you have disaster items in case of a Hurricane.

What many may not know is that stores across the state are giving out a discount to help people get prepared.

The first thing that you see when you walk in Askari Ace Hardware are all of the hurricane preparedness items.

This week, you'll be able to get them for free.

The state of Florida is holding its Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday.

Shoppers can purchase items like flashlights ans candles, batteries, radios, and generators without being taxed.

There is a price cap on many of the items, however.

For example, a generator that costs more than $750 won't be included.

Many stores have the items grouped together and lists with suggested things to buy available.

"Michael was a monster and I think everybody was as prepared as they can be. They had the essentials and everything, but mother nature is a monster of its own," said Robert McIntyre the Assistant Manager at Askari Ace Hardware.

Things like food, water, and medicine are always tax free in Florida.

The Disaster Preparedness Tax Holiday ends June 6.
