HAHIRA, Ga. (WTXL) - Hahira, Georgia... a place where everybody knows your name. And with a population of 3,200 people, it's easy to know your neighbor, postal workers, and pharmacists by first and last name.

Pharmacist Hugh Chancy explained how his parents started a local staple 50 years ago, "My father started pharmacy in Quitman, GA and that's where he met my mother. He found out early on in the first few years that he really wanted to be in a place where he could serve a community and he was interested in smaller communities and Hahira was close to home."

The current owners of the store have managed to expand the business to nearby cities, Valdosta and Adel, but they say they want to keep the business small and local because it's important to know each patient by name.

The co-owner Bert Chancy explained how staying in a close-knit community helps with their services, "We're able to really work with the patients to tailor the care to them. We do medication reviews with them. We're not just filling prescriptions for them, we're making sure that if they have multiple physicians their medications are what they need and they're taking them like they're supposed to."
