TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The Word of South Festival ended Sunday with a finale performance by the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra featuring a celebrity special guest, JK Simmons.

Simmons, best known for his roles on Law & Order and Spiderman, read monologues and poetry alongside the symphony's string ensemble.

Simmons said the festival is the perfect fusion of music and art. "I think the TSO program is perfect for Word of South because it does bring together the literature and great orchestral music simultaneously, I mean it's a varied program. There are going to be some beautiful spirituals and so orchestral works," said Simmons.

The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra's performance commemorated the 100th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, playing a collection of great americana pieces.
