If you consider yourself a “foodie” and spend a lot of your time thinking about food or perhaps cooking it up yourself, Churchill Downs Racetrack has a contest you’ll want to consider entering.
The racetrack is looking for someone to be their first-ever “Official Menu Taste Tester of the 146th Kentucky Derby.” Now through Feb. 12, the first 100 people to share their favorite original Derby party recipe will have the chance to join Churchill Downs’ Executive Chef David Danielson at the racetrack’s kitchen to help finalize this year’s menu.
Danielson will choose a final winner, who will be awarded a trip to Louisville with a guest from March 12-14 to learn the secrets behind the chef’s specialties and help select the final dishes that will be served to thousands of people. The experience includes airfare, hotel accommodations, $1,000 cash, a dining voucher to visit one of Louisville’s best restaurants and tickets to the 146th Kentucky Derby.
The Derby Day menu is served to more than 22,000 guests in premium dining areas around the racetrack during the Kentucky Oaks filly race on May 1 and the Kentucky Derby on May 2.
“The Kentucky Derby is more than just the greatest two minutes in sports – it’s a celebration of authentic Kentucky flavors, ingredients and traditions, both at Churchill Downs and across the country as viewers celebrate at home,” Danielson said in a press release. “I’m excited to bring in the culinary expertise of a passionate foodie to add a special twist to this year’s menu and our culinary traditions.”
You must be 21 and older and a resident of the 48 contiguous U.S. states to enter. Danielson will select the winner and recipe based on creativity, ease of preparation and consistency with the Derby party theme.
While the recipe you submit must be unique, if you need some inspiration, Danielson previously shared some recipes with us from his cookbook, “The Bourbon Country Cookbook”.
Recipes like Bacon and Pecan Pimento Cheese, Derby Shrimp and Grits with Tasso Gravy, Bacon-Wrapped Beef Tenderloin with Henry Bain Sauce and even Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie are sure to give you the inspiration to come up with something new!
Will you be submitting an original recipe in hopes of winning the role of the Kentucky Derby’s first-ever official menu taste tester?
