Chicken soup is comforting when you’re under the weather. Chicken Soup for the Soul is comforting any time at all. And your moving, inspirational or otherwise meaningful story could touch others and help you earn some extra cash.
The publishers of the uplifting book series, “Chicken Soup for the Soul,” are always looking for authentic, heartwarming submissions to consider for upcoming titles. If your tale fits the topic of a future book, you could become a published author with an extra $200 in your pocket.
Getting Your Story Published
Submitting your story for consideration is easy. Simply go to the submission page on the Chicken Soup for the Soul website, fill out the form and paste the text of your story or poem in the relevant box before clicking “Submit.”
Want to increase your chances of having your story accepted? Your story will require a few specific ingredients.
First, make sure your anecdote is a true story that matches the topic as closely as possible. For instance, a recently-published title, “The Miracle of Love,” featured stories of hope, soul mates and new beginnings, as noted in this Instagram post.
Your story must be previously unpublished and should not be a sermon, essay, thesis, letter or journal entry. It should compel readers from the start and evoke strong emotions. It should be no longer than 1,200 words. And, above all, it should come from your heart.
Then, be prepared to wait. These books might take months or even years to be published, so be patient. The publisher does not send out rejection notices, but will typically notify you of your acceptance more than 60 days before the book becomes available.
Reading Chicken Soup for the Soul books and following the publisher on social media is a great way to learn more about the types of stories they publish. And as noted in the tweet below, they also have a podcast:
