QUINCY, Fla. -- The Quincy Police Department has started a volunteer Parking Enforcement Program in the downtown area of the city.

The volunteers will take no law enforcement actions and will enforce non-criminal parking infractions. If a criminal or emergency situation happens, they will call on sworn officers to handle the incident.

Lifelong Quincy Resident Randall L. Zeigler will be a volunteer assigned to the immediate areas of the Quincy Courthouse Square and nearby streets. He will be working during daytime business hours Monday through Friday.

Ziegler completed several weeks of department training for the position.

Zeigler is a 1972 graduate of James A. Shanks High School and served in the US Army as a Field Wiring Communications Specialist during the Vietnam Era. He has worked in the past for The Florida State Hospital as a food service worker and also has worked in the health care profession as a nurse’s assistant.

The volunteer program is part of the City of Quincy’s overall strategy of reducing costs and saving taxpayers’ dollars by using volunteers when possible.
