Arrest made in Tallahassee homicide

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- An arrest has been made in the homicide of Donyel Safford.

The Tallahassee Police Department responded to a shooting at Wahnish Way Friday morning. Upon arrival TPD found 36-year-old Donyel Safford on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Safford was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he later died.

The shooter was identified by witnesses as 39-year-old Jermaine Phillips. Safford allegedly went to Phillips home to talk about moving back in with his wife who currently lives with Phillips. Phillips is accused of then pulling a handgun and shooting Safford several times. After shooting Safford, Phillips then fled the scene.

The Tallahassee Police Department and the North Florida Fugitive Task Force made the arrest Friday afternoon. 

Phillips is currently being held in the Leon County Jail.
