TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - On Tuesday afternoon, rumors began swirling that both Valdosta High School head coach Rance Gillespie and Valdosta State head coach David Dean were leaving their positions for Co-Offensive Coordinator jobs at Georgia Southern.
WTXL confirmed with a source close to the Valdosta High program that the rumors were true, and that both Gillespie and Dean are headed to Statesboro to head the Eagle offense.
WTXL reached out to Valdosta State for comment, but they said they had none as of Tuesday afternoon. When asked if Dean was still the coach of the Blazers, they said that he was.
Dean led the Blazers to two National Championships in his nine seasons at the helm of the Valdosta State program. This will be Gillespie's second stint in Statesboro. He spent three years there as a coordinator before coming to Valdosta in 2010.
