TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The 32304 zip code in Tallahassee has the highest concentration of poverty in the entire state of Florida, according to the president of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.
Mark Wilson said it during his keynote speech at the Tallahassee Chamber's Annual Breakfast Meeting this week. The 32304 zip code is in the northwest quadrant of the city.
The Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce says that it's up to the business community to inspire positive change that will help break the cycle of poverty in our community, especially among the younger generation.
"It's a top priority for us moving forward to address those needs of the most vulnerable in our community and find out what we need to do, especially with the children," said Jay Revell. "What can we be doing with those children to make sure they have the resources available to them to move forward and try to find ladders out of poverty as they grow into adulthood."
The chamber says other zip codes in our area also struggle with issues of poverty.
They hope to combat these issues through community partnerships and outreach.
