Vacant home destroyed by fire in Wakulla County

MEDART, Fla. -- Fire destroyed a vacant home in the Medart section of Wakulla County, according to Wakulla County fire officials.

The house fire happened around 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, February 24.The vacant double-wide home was located several hundred feet north of 3580 Coastal Highway (U.S. Highway 98) in an area with a lot of trees.

Officials say an off-duty FDLE officer discovered the fire and reported it to the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office 911 center. The responding firefighters were able to put the fire out, but not before the home was destroyed.

Fire officials say that the home hadn't been occupied in over a year, and there was no electricity in the residence.

No injuries were reported.
