PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WTXL) - FBI agents believe an 150 foot long underground tunnel leading toward a Florida bank is a part of an attempted bank robbery.

The FBI provided an update on their investigation Wednesday afternoon.

Agents say they were called to the tunnel after local police responded to a report of a tunnel in the road.

They say the tunnel entrance was found inside a wood line south of the Chase Bank branch along with a generator, wrench, and a wagon. According to WPLG, there was also a pair of muddy boots, a small homemade ladder, a stool and digging tools inside the tunnel.

Agents say the tunnel is approximately 2-4 feet wide and at least 50 yards (150 feet) long. They say a cadaver dog determined that there were no bodies inside of the tunnel.

The FBI is now investigating the situation as an attempted bank burglary, since the bank was never breached and no money was taken.

Investigators have not determined when the tunnel was started or when it was last worked on. According to the Associated Press, agents plan on digging up the tunnel.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in this area, likely after dark, is urged to call the FBI at 754.703.2000.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — The FBI is investigating after an underground tunnel was discovered leading to a Chase Bank near a South Florida shopping center.

The FBI was called after officials realized the sinkhole they were investigating was a tunnel of sorts.

There was a pair of muddy boots, a small homemade ladder, a stool, digging tools and a small Honda generator inside the nearly 50 foot tunnel, according to WPLG . The tunnel reportedly stretches fifty feet under a road. It starts in a wooded area and continues straight toward the drive-up window of the bank.

Pembroke Pines police turned the investigation over to the FBI.

Officials have not released further information.
