GILCHRIST COUNTY, Fla.  (WTXL) - Troopers are investigating after two Suwannee County women were killed in a head-on crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the crash happened on Monday around 6:20 p.m., shutting down U.S. 129 for several hours.

They say Sonja Woodcock, 59, of Brandford and Sandra Gamel, 67, of Brandford were killed in a two car crash on U.S. 129, just south of C.R. 341.

Woodcock, with Gamel as her passenger, was traveling north on U.S. 129 in her 2003 Ford Taurus when she crashed head-on into a truck going the opposite direction.

Woodcock and Gamel were pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the truck was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Troopers say it is unknown if alcohol played a factor in the crash. Gamel was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

FHP reports the crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
