TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Eight students are facing battery charges for their involvement in a fight at Tift County High School that sent one school resource officer to the hospital.

Video of the fight is going viral on Facebook.

According to Tift County High School, the incident started before school Tuesday morning.

In the video, two male students are fighting when a police officer grabs them, trying to break it up, and all three fall.

Students quickly surround them.

Investigators aren't releasing the officer's name but say he was taken to the hospital for serious arm and knee injuries and may need surgery.

In all, eight students were arrested on charges of affray and battery.

On social media, several parents say they're upset they weren't told about the incident sooner.

The cause of the fight is still under investigation.
