TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Local leaders got their moment to shine Thursday night as they were honored at Leadership Tallahassee's 24 Annual Distinguished Leadership Awards.
Hundreds of people filed into the University Center Club to pay tribute to those who are working to make Tallahassee a more positive place.
The public sent in nominees for awards presented Thursday.
Awarded were Byron Burroughs for Leader of the Year, Darrick McGhee for Leadership Pacesetter, Kathy Bell for Servant Leadership and Virginia Glass for Lifetime Leadership award.
Organizers express how important it is to honor those who strive to make a difference in the community.
"I think most definitely in these times, that those examples of leadership, those who serve the community without any self gain are important lessons for people to hear about," said Barbra Boone, executive director of Leadership Tallahassee.
All proceeds from the event will go to fund Youth Leadership Tallahassee.
