SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A weekend swimming trip turns tragic after a 13-year-old boy dies in a drowning accident.
According to the Suwannee County Sheriff, it happened around 3:00 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses told deputies a teen boy jumped into the water in the Little River Springs area, near the Suwannee River, and did not resurface. Others reportedly jumped in after the boy but could not find him.
Sheriff Sam St. John says, with the help of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office dive team, the boy's body was recovered later that afternoon.
The sheriff's office is not releasing the boy's identity.
