TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Tallahassee leaders are making a goal to reduce the city’s carbon footprint, saying they want Tallahassee to be on 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.
This week, commissioners adopted the Clean Energy Resolution and named milestones they want to meet.
Mayor John Dailey says they hope to convert city-owned facilities and main line buses to completely renewable energy sources in the next 15 years.
"We're looking at our fleets and seeing what is the strategy to convert our fleets over to electric. We're looking at our mass transit as well," said Dailey. "We're analyzing our utility system in all aspects of city government so that we can move forward and meet our targets. Of course it will probably change along the way, especially as new technologies are developed."
The resolution calls for a study to develop a plan for 100 percent renewable energy for the city's utility system.
Leaders will also host public meeting to hear from the community during this process.
