TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- A Tallahassee man was arrested after he left his dog in a car with temperatures soaring to 100 degrees, said deputies.

According to court documents, Sa'Quan Zierre Throb, left his dog in the car while he took his girlfriend to a doctor's visit Sunday afternoon.

Sgt. Jim Tyson, who was off duty at the time, saw the puppy had been left in a car unattended and appeared to be struggling with the heat. Sgt. Tyson found the owner of the car and asked him to go outside to let the puppy, a pit bull named King, out of the car.

Documents show the 7-month old puppy was in the car for about 45 minutes with no air conditioning. They also said that the car was in direct sunlight with no shade and the temperature was 97 degrees.

Court documents say that when the dog was let out of the car, he could not walk straight and was panting heavily. The officer led the dog to a faucet where the dog drank water for about a minute straight, according to the arrest affidavit.

Throb told officers that he was at Urgent Care with his girlfriend and wasn't aware how long he had left the dog in the car, documents show.

Throb was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. The dog was taken to Animal Control for further observation.
