TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A man was arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department after being seen on surveillance camera shoplifting from Wal-Mart.
Gary Paul, 57, was seen on surveillance camera stealing hardware store items from Wal-Mart.
On Feb. 16, officers received a call from Wal-Mart on Apalachee Parkway, where a witness said he saw Paul stealing from the store.
The witness stated that he was on surveillance duty in the store when he saw Paul. The witness was familiar with Paul because Paul has previously stolen from Wal-Mart.
According to the police report, the witness went to the Loss Prevention Office and continued to watch Paul on the security cameras.
The witness saw Paul go into the Hardware section of the store and take some paint products. Paul hid the items in his jacket and started to leave the store without paying.
Before Paul could make it out the store, he was approached by the witness and taken to the Loss Prevention Office.
The police report stated the witness found three small cans of Rustoleum stain and polyurethane, and a pair of work gloves that totaled $46.
When speaking to police, Paul said he took the items to restore some furniture he found.
Paul stated that he had just been provided with a house to live in and needed some money to buy items for the house.
Paul planned to restore the furniture items and sell it. Paul said he had no money or he would have purchased the polyurethane.
According to the police report, Paul appeared to have several previous convictions for theft in the past.
Based on the evidence, Paul was arrested for felony theft and transported to Leon County Jail.
