TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man was arrested for leaving his four-year-old son inside a car with temperatures reaching up into the 90's.
According to Tallahassee Police, Nelse Coleman left his son inside a black car in the Vitamin Shoppe parking lot on Apalachee Parkway Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the child was asleep, and sweating profusely in the car when they were called to the scene. According to officers, Coleman left his son in the car for at least 20 minutes.
First responders tried to find him inside the store, but they said no one identified themselves as the parent.
EMS crews were able to get the boy out of the car, which police say, had reached temperatures of nearly 120 degrees inside.
Police say when Coleman eventually walked up to them, he was angry about officers breaking into his car, saying he leaves his child in the car often.
Police put Coleman in the back of the patrol car, while they waited for the child's mother to pick up the boy, Coleman told police "I can't leave my four-year-old son in the car by himself," according to the police report.
He's been charged with child endangerment.
