TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A Tallahassee firefighter who happened to be in the right place at the right time, helped welcome a new baby into the world on Wednesday.

Tallahassee Fire Department Chief Dennis Roberts said he was flagged down on the way to work by a woman on the side of the road at Tennessee and Monroe Street.

He said she had just had her baby in the car while she was on her way to the hospital.

Roberts helped the woman and comforted the baby until more help arrived on scene.

"When the engines came up behind me, my hands were full I was holding the baby and supporting the baby," said Roberts.

Roberts said getting the woman and child medical care was a team effort though.

"They rushed up with their medical equipment and EMS arrived about the same time," he said. "They brought their OB kit, and were able to go ahead and do what needed to be done as far a further taking care of the child."

And this isn't the first time Roberts has been in a similar situation.

Once a woman was brought to his station after her car was pulled over for speeding.

Roberts says that mom delivered the baby right there with the help of him and his team.
