ST. GEORGE ISLAND, FL (WTXL) - Reports are coming in that loggerhead turtle nests on St. George Island are being washed away due to storm surges from Tropical Storm Colin.
According to the St. George Island Volunteer Turtlers, it is believed that 58 loggerhead turtle nests have been washed over or washed away.
The group says relocation is usually done the morning after nests have been laid and that the storm surge has already reached where the nests were located near the dune line.
Volunteers add that their permit also does not allow relocation of the nests.
