WAKULLA COUNTY, FL (WTXL) - The Wakulla County chapter of the NAACP held a meeting Friday afternoon to address the issues surrounding Detective Richard Moon's Facebook post about the Ferguson decision that resulted in his suspension.
The meeting was held at the New Bridge Hope Missionary Baptist Church on Spring Creek Highway. Members of the NAACP as well the community were in attendance.
People got the opportunity to ask Wakulla County Sheriff Charlie Creel questions about Detective Moon's actions and punishment. These are actions which Sheriff Creel says that he's "not going to put up with."
Sheriff Creel was also asked if residents should feel safe in the community and around police. He said that "you do not have to feel unsafe in this county."
He also mentioned that his officers are trained and that he plans on getting body cameras on all his officers in the coming future to make sure people are being treated fairly, regardless of race.
Several residents spoke to Sheriff Creel about their own experiences with officers. Sheriff Creel addressed these issues and mentioned ways he hopes that his department can improve.
