TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - This weekend a local non-profit organization is collaborating with several education associations giving away more than 40,000 brand new books to educators and families in need.

The Florida Education Association (FEA), the Leon County Teachers Association (LCTA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), are partnering with the Leon County School District and First Book, a national non-profit, to give away than 40,000 books on Saturday.

Educators and school staff who serve in Title I-eligible schools will be able to select 50 books for their classroom, program or library, and low-income families have been invited to pick up as many as five books per child.

Together, the AFT and First Book partnership has distributed more than 4 million books to students and families in need.

The book giveaway at the Palmer Munroe Teen Center will start at noon on Saturday and will continue until 4 p.m. or until books run out. Organizers say that there will be a short media event at 2:30 p.m. featuring FEA President Joanne McCall and LCTA President Scott Mazur.
