LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) - Georgia health officials have confirmed a case of the mosquito-borne virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in a horse in Lowndes County.

Because of this discovery, health officials are warning all South Georgians to wear mosquito spray whenever they're outdoors.

Most mosquito-borne illnesses are transmitted to humans and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito.

Health officials say there is no vaccine for humans to prevent mosquito-borne viruses, but there are vaccines available for horses.
