TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Midway man has been arrested after threatening a victim with a hunting knife and demanding him to perform oral sex outside of a local hotel.
Darrius Thomas, 33, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on July 31.
On May 23, 2017 the Tallahassee Police Department was called to the Days Inn on Apalachee Parkway in response to a sexual battery.
When officers arrived on scene they made contact with the victim.
While talking with officers, the victim said he was walking in the parking lot, talking to his girlfriend on the phone.
He told officers he was sharing a room with a coworker and stepped outside to make the call.
According to the police report, after the call ended, the victim started to walk back to his room, when Thomas approached him.
He said Thomas reached into a holster on his side and pulled out a 12-inch hunting knife.
The police report states, Thomas then demanded the victim to get on his knees and perform oral sex on him.
The victim said because he was afraid of being injured, he complied with Thomas' demands.
After he was finished, Thomas got into his car and drove away.
The victim told officers he showered and rinsed his mouth out before calling police.
Officers collected the clothes the victim was wearing at the time of the incident and turned them over to investigators.
The victim also agreed to complete a sexual assault evidence kit.
Hotel staff told officers that there were no working cameras on the exterior of the hotel.
The evidence kit was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for analysis, but none of the information from the DNA testing met the criteria to be entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
Investigators also requested the victim's pants be sent to FDLE and that's where DNA was found to connect Thomas to the incident.
When Thomas' DNA was entered into CODIS, it was revealed that Thomas was also charged for another incident where he performed oral sex on a disabled victim.
DNA was used in that case as well to link Thomas to the incident.
Based on the evidence, Thomas is being charged with sexual battery with a deadly weapon.
He was taken to the Leon County Detention Center and his bond has been set at $25,000.
